Founders Q&A Prompts

  1. Why are you building functionSPACE?

What problem in the world made you feel this had to exist?

    • Right now in the world, there isn’t anything that exists to allow people to freely and fully express their beliefs and to add economic weight behind it. The world is flooded with information, particularly in the world of rapidly accelerating AI, opinion is cheap and everyone has something to say. functionSPACE literally allows people to put money where their mouth is.

    • Was there a moment when you realized that prediction markets or belief expression were fundamentally broken?

      • It’s not that prediction markets today are broken, it’s more so seeing a wave of information on traditional media outlets having basically a monopoly on information. I see a world where functionSPACE allows everyone to not only have a voice but to add economic weight behind their conviction and be paid for it.

  2. What first pulled you into this space?

    • Was it something technical, philosophical, or personal that drew you in?

      • I bought my first Bitcoin in 2017 and saw its immense potential to decentralize money and the expression of wealth itself in a permissionless manner. The underlying technology behind Bitcoin being blockchain, has also opened up the doors for decentalized computation and smart contract execution which opened up the doors to the likes of decentrlized finance. I was fortunate enough to have professionally worked in web3 with Banxa in 2021, there I grew my understanding, experience and network within the industry and led me to work at major protocols like Sky (MakerDAO). Through my time at Banxa, i was fortunate enough to have met Tom (Chief Product Officer) at the time and we’d develop a really good relationship. After departing from Banxa for more than a year, Tom reached out to me to talk about his new idea in building the information market infrastructure and the rest was history.

    • How did your perspective on truth, coordination, or information markets change once you began exploring it?

      • I effectively got nerd sniped by Tom when he explained that prediction markets could effectively replace or trade like traditional financial instruments like derivatives if it could be appropriately and semantically defined. Once we pulled on that thread further, I began to realize the true market size and potential of functionSPACE, it was literally the ability to address the market of managing risk and uncertainty itself. The most interesting part of functionSPACE was that we were not building a 100 x better prediction market or any other application today, functionSPACE was something that was built from the ground up, reasoned from first principles and architectured at the market micro-structure level.

  3. How did functionSPACE actually begin?

    • What was the initial spark — a conversation, an idea, or a frustration?

      • See answers above.

      • At the time this happend May 2025 - i was also finishing up my contract with Sky, with the rebranding initiative from MakerDAO was nearing completition. The timing couldn’t have been better as that was finishing up, I was ramping up my work with functionSPACE. After a few months of going all in, helping the team with the positioning, talking to investors and adding Cameron Loo (now COO, from Nethermind), we finally closed our pre-seed funding with Maven11.

    • How did the team come together around it, and what did those early days look like?

      • See above.

  4. How long have you been working on it — and what’s evolved since the beginning?

    • How different is what you’re building today from the original concept?

    • What’s something you’ve learned that fundamentally reshaped your approach?

      • See above.

      • The thing that I’ve learnt that fundamentally reshaped my approach was that at the end of the day, what matters is how the user interacts with it and how you can explain it in such a way that other people like users, traders, investlrs, partners can understand. What we’ve built is something so orthogonal to what exists today that we work differently and harder to ensure that it comes across. As complex and innovative as functionSPACE is, it doesn’t really matter if no one understands it.

  5. Why does it matter to you personally?

    • What’s the deeper conviction or belief that keeps you going when things are hard?

    • If functionSPACE succeeds, what changes — not just for crypto, but for people and how information moves in the world?

      • I personally think blockchain technology and information markets have the ability to really shape the world in a positive way. It can be a tool used to achieve epistemic integrity as well as open up the doors to new and innovative ways for people to express their convictions. As it currently stands both web3 and prediction markets industry are filled with sub-optimal use cases for the technology, a lot of wasted potential on low-fidelity actiities like trivial gambling in both sectors. I hope functionSPACE can really unlock the collective wisdom of humanity and open up a design surface for more innovation to usher humanity towards truth
